Wital Shtscherba ( Russian Witali Wenediktowitsch Schcherbo ; referred to in the German-language press as Witali Scherbo ; born January 13, 1972 in Minsk , Soviet Union ) is a former Belarusian artistic gymnast .

Sporting successes

Shcherba took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona ( 1992 ) and Atlanta ( 1996 ). In total, he won six gold and four bronze medals (10 medals) at the Olympics. This puts him in 22nd place in the all-time best list (as of 2012) and the most successful athlete at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. In addition to the Olympic successes, he was eight times European champion and ten times world champion. In 1992 he was voted Europe's Sportsman of the Year . In 2009 Vital Shcherba was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .

In October 2017, Ukrainian gymnast Tetjana Guzu made public that she was allegedly raped by Shcherba in 1991 at the age of 15.
