Haruhiro Yamashita , Japanese 山下 治 広 , Yamashita Haruhiro , later Haruhiro Matsuda , (born November 15, 1938 in Uwajima ) is a former Japanese artistic gymnast .

At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo , he won a gold medal in horse jumping and in team all- round competition. In the competition on the pommel horse , he took fourth place.

At the World Gymnastics Championships in Prague in 1962 he was world champion in team all-around and vice world champion in horse jumping. Four years later at the World Gymnastics Championships in Dortmund in 1966 , he won the horse jump and was again a member of the victorious Japanese team in the all-around competition.

In horse jumping, a jump he performed for the first time in 1962, a forward handstand jump, bears his name under the name Yamashita jump . After his marriage, he took his wife's surname, under which he is recorded in the annals of the 1966 World Championships. In 2000 he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .
