George Eyser (born August 31, 1870 in Kiel , † March 6, 1919 in Denver , Denver County , Colorado , United States ) was an American gymnast and three-time Olympic champion . He came to the United States from Germany at the age of 14. The German-American received American citizenship in 1894.

At the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis , he was the third most successful athlete in these games with three gold, two silver and one bronze medal. He won the individual competitions on parallel bars, rope hanging and horse jumping together with his compatriot Anton Heida . He won the silver medal in the individual all-around and in the pommel horse. In the bar he finally won bronze. With the Concordia gymnastics club from St. Louis, he came in 4th place in the team all-around competition. This is all the more remarkable since he stepped on with a wooden leg. A few years earlier he had lost his left leg in a train accident.

He was the first athlete to take part in the Olympic Games after a leg amputation .
