Platinite

Platinite is an iron-nickel alloy with about 46 percent nickel , 54 percent iron and about 0.15 percent carbon. Platinite has the same coefficient of thermal expansion as glass and platinum , but is significantly cheaper than platinum.

Platinit is also called Einschmelzlegierung for z. B. Glass is used.

More recently, the term has also been used as a brand name for catalyst gauzes made from precious metals or alloys from Degussa.
