Viktor Jakowlewitsch Klimenko ( Russian Виктор Яковлевич Клименко ; born February 25, 1949 in Moscow) is a former Russian gymnast . He won gold on the pommel horse at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich .

Career

At the Olympic Games in 1968 he was with the Soviet team second behind the Japanese team. He won the bronze medal on bars. At the 1970 World Championships he won silver in the horse jump and bronze on the pommel horse. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, he won the pommel horse and won silver with the team and in the horse jump.

In 1971 and 1973 Klimenko was European all-around champion. He also won the horse jump in 1969 and on the horizontal bar and in 1973 on the parallel bars and rings.

After the career

Born in Russia, he came to Germany many years ago from Moscow, where he worked as a top coach in Niederwörresbach (Rhineland-Palatinate) in the state gymnastics center. There he trained many young girls and boys together with his wife Larissa Petrik and his eldest son Viktor Klimenko.

His wife is mostly responsible for choreographic things, such as B. for putting together floor and balance beam exercises, his son mostly takes over the smallest girls and boys. Viktor Klimenko himself is responsible for the uneven bars, jumping and difficult elements on other devices. Among other things, he trains his youngest son, Vladimir Klimenko.

A few years ago his eldest son married a Russian ballet dancer and he became a grandfather.
