Ferenc Pataki (born September 18, 1917 in Budapest , † April 25, 1988 there ) was a Hungarian gymnast.

Life

Coming from a poorer family, Pataki discovered his passion for gymnastics at the age of 12 while visiting a circus. He was fascinated by the acrobatic movements - "somersaults and dizzying jumps" - that he made the decision to become a gymnast himself.

At the beginning of his career he took part in several national competitions in Hungary and even won the national championship in gymnastics in 1939, but had to give up his sports career at times due to the Second World War .

Nonetheless, after the end of the war in 1948, he won the gold medal in floor gymnastics at the Summer Olympics in London, as well as a bronze medal in the horse jump and in the gymnastics team all- round competition. At the following Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952 , he took part again, but remained medalless. Pataki ended his sports career in 1953 and then taught acrobatics at the Hungarian national circus school. He died in 1988 after a serious illness at the age of 70.
