Nikolai Nikolayevich Saksonov
Nikolai Nikolajewitsch Saksonow ( Russian: Николай Николаевич Саксонов ; born January 6, 1923 in Serga , today in Kungur Rajon , Perm region ; † November 2, 2011 in a suburb of Elektrougli ) was a Soviet weightlifter .
Life
Nikolai Saksonov grew up in Sverdlovsk and started lifting weights at a local sports club when he was seventeen. His first coach was Ivan Lebedev. In 1947 Saksonow reached 270 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. A year later it was 300 kg. As a role model he was Georgi Popow , who had already set world records in featherweight during the war, which, however, could not be recognized by the world association, since the Soviet Union was not a member of the association at that time. Saksonov won the Russian championship for the first time in 1949 and then took part in international competitions. His coaches were Nikolai Shatow , Israel Mechanik and Jakow Kuzenko .
Nikolai Saksonov studied medicine and after the end of his active career worked as a doctor and trainer.
