Arthrolysis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The arthrolysis is a surgically-orthopedic procedure to the mobility of a joint to restore. The procedure is performed under anesthesia and can be performed on the open joint or arthroscopically . In contrast to arthroplasty , the joint is retained. The term was introduced by Hackenbroch in 1944.

Adhesions inside and outside the joint are either detached or the shrunken joint capsule is severed (simple arthrolysis). The removal of osteophytes (extended arthrolysis) can also be used to restore mobility. The procedure can be performed with or without distraction .
