Israil mechanics

Israil Mechanik ( Russian Израиль Механик ; * 1909 ; † 1989 ) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

Israil Mechanik started lifting weights in 1930 . From 1934 to 1950 he participated in the Soviet championships with great success. During his time in the Soviet Union he had three main competitors, those were Nikolai Shatow , Georgi Popow and Vladimir Swetilko . He was already stamped as the "eternal second" when he still managed to win two big wins. In 1939 he became Soviet champion and as the culmination of his career, in 1947 even European champion in Helsinki , both times in the lightweight. After finishing his active career he became a coach and was part of the legendary coaching staff of the Soviet national team with Jakow Kuzenko , Nikolai Shatow and himself. From 1952 he also worked as a referee at many international championships.

International success

1947, 1st place , European Championship in Helsinki, lightweight, with 330 kg, ahead of Georgi Popow, Soviet Union , 330 kg and Sigvard Kinnunen, Sweden , 315 kg.

  • 1947, 2nd place , with 340 kg, OD, behind Popow, 342.5 kg;
  • 1948, 3rd place , with 332.5 kg, OD;
  • 1949, 2nd place , OD.
