Heino Kruus

Heino Kruus ( Russian Хейно Рихардович Круус ; born September 30, 1926 in Tallinn , Estonia ; † June 24, 2012 ) was an Estonian basketball player who competed internationally for the Soviet Union due to the occupation of his country .

Athletic performance

From 1949 to 1954 Heino Kruus played in the national basketball team of the USSR , with which he won the silver medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki . In 1951 and 1953, Kruus won the gold medal at the European championships with the Soviet basketball team. Kruus was with his basketball team Estonian champions in 1946, 1947, 1949 (as a player) and 1954 and 1955 (as a coach) and 1958 Estonian handball champions (as a coach). From 1945 to 1956 he also appeared for the team of the Estonian SSR .

From 1954 to 1963 Heino Kruus was a coach at the Kalev club in Tallinn and continued his education at the same time. He graduated from Tartu State University in 1960 with a degree in physical education. From 1963 to 1988 Kruus worked as a lecturer.
