Montenegro , whose NOK , the Crnogorski olimpijski komitet , was founded in 2006 andrecognizedby the IOC in2007, has participated in the Summer Olympics since 2008 and in the Winter Olympics since 2010.

Before Montenegro became independent, the country's athletes took part in the Yugoslavia team in the Olympic Games until 1992 , then as Serbia and Montenegro and from 2008 as a separate team.

General overview

Summer games

The first Olympic team in Montenegro in 2008 consisted of 19 athletes who competed in athletics, boxing, judo, shooting, swimming and water polo.

The men's water polo team finished fourth three times in a row in 2008 , 2012 and 2016 . The Montenegrin selection lost in the game for 3rd place, 4-6 against Serbia , 11-12 against Serbia and 10:12 against Italy .

In 2012 the first Olympic medal could be won. The women's handball team won the silver medal. It was the only Olympic medal in Montenegro up to and including 2018.

Winter games

In 2010, Montenegro took part in the Winter Games for the first time. Since then, Montenegrin athletes have only participated in alpine ski racing and cross-country skiing.
