Overview
At the Olympic premiere in Barcelona in 1992 , the Namibian Olympic team consisted of three athletes, two swimmers and a boxer. Boxer Harry Simon and swimmers Jörg Lindemeier and Monica Dahl were Namibia's first Olympians on July 26, 1992. In Barcelona, the sprinter Frank Fredericks won silver in the 100 and 200 meter run, making him the first medalist in his country.
In 1996 in Atlanta , Fredericks did the same thing again. Again he won silver in both disciplines. A marksman competed for the first time in Atlanta. Friedhelm Sack reached the final with the air pistol and finished eighth. In 2000 in Sydney for the first time a gymnast and a cyclist competed, in 2004 in Athens for the first time a wrestler. Fredericks, who was not there in Sydney, qualified in Athens for the 200-meter final and finished fourth. In London 2012 , the marathon runner Helalia Johannes achieved a top placement with 12th place.
