Mali , whose NOK , the Comité National Olympique et Sportif du Mali , was founded in 1962 andrecognizedby the IOC in1963, has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1964. In 1976 they joined the African boycott of the Montreal Games. Participation in winter games has so far been waived. So far no medal could be won.
Overview
Two athletes formed the Mali Olympic team when it first participated in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . The first Olympian in his country was Sara Camara , who competed in the 100-meter run on October 14, 1964. A boxer was used for the first time in Mexico City in 1968 , and a judoka for the first time in Munich in 1972 . Mali participated in the boycott of African countries at the Montreal Games in 1976 .
In 1980 in Moscow , Fatalmoudou Niaré, a woman from Mali, competed in an Olympic competition for the first time. In the following summer games, Mali was unsuccessful. Malian swimmers competed for the first time in Sydney in 2000 . In 2004 in Athens , the Malian U23 national soccer team celebrated its Olympic debut, in 2008 the women's national basketball team in Beijing . A participant in the Taekwondo competition also took part in this for the first time. The heavyweight Taekwondoin Daba Modibo Keïta fought for the bronze medal in 2012 in London until the match. Due to injury, however, he could not start the fight, so that he was only fourth. Keïta was the most successful Olympic starter in Mali to date (as of 2017).
