Summer games

The first Thai Olympic team consisted of athletes in Helsinki in 1952. The first Olympic athlete in Thailand was sprinter Adul Wanatasith on July 20, 1952. The country's first woman to attend the Olympic Games on October 12, 1964, was the yachtsman Princess Arunee, the wife of Prince Bira , who started in the same boat.

In addition to athletics, Thailand was also in the following summer games in the sports of sailing, boxing, football and basketball (from 1956), shooting (from 1960), judo, cycling, swimming and weightlifting (from 1964), archery, diving and fencing (from 1976 ), Badminton and tennis (from 1992), table tennis and rowing (from 2000), taekwondo and horse riding (from 2004), canoeing (from 2012) and golf (from 2016).

Thailand remained unsuccessful until 1972. This changed in 1976 in Montreal with the first medal win. The boxer Phayao Phoontharat won bronze in the light flyweight division. Boxing then developed into the strongest and most successful sport in Thailand. In 1984 Dhawee Umponmaha won silver at the light welterweight division . 1988 bronze in the bantamweight by Phajol Moolsan, 1992 again bronze in welterweight by Arkhom Chenglai .
