Vichai Rachanon

Vichai Rachanon , also: Vichai Khodpo ( Thai วิชัย ราชา นนท์ , วิชัย ขัด โพธิ์ ; born March 3, 1968 in Amphoe Nong Ruea , Khon Kaen , northeast Thailand ) is a former Thai boxer . Vichai was bronze medalist at the Asian Games in 1990 and 1994 and the Olympic Games in 1996 and Asian Champion in 1991 and 1992. He was also a participant in the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992 .

Career

In 1988 Vichai took part in the Olympic Games in Seoul , but retired in the flyweight (-51 kg) starting already in the first fight against Andy Agosto, Puerto Rico (5-0).

In 1990 Vichai took third place at the Asian Games in Beijing and in 1991 he won the Southeast Asian Games in Manila . In the same year he also became Asian champion and qualified for the 1992 Olympic Games . In 1992 Vichai was again Asian champion before he was eliminated from the first fight against Mario Loch , Germany , at the Olympic Games in Barcelona due to an injury. Vichai ended the year by winning the World Military Championships.

At the Southeast Asian Games in 1993, Vichai took second place and at the World Cup in Bangkok the following year he beat Waldemar Font , Cuba (12: 9), before losing in the final to Rovshan Huseynov, Azerbaijan (15:10). In addition, Vichai won the bronze medal at the Asian Games in Hiroshima in 1995 and the silver medal at the World Military Championships in Rome . In 1996, Vichai took part in the Olympic Games for the third time and celebrated his greatest success here. After victories over Claude Lambert, Canada (12: 2), Carlos Barreto, Venezuela (14: 6), and Hicham Nafil, Morocco (13: 4), and a semi-final defeat against Istvan Kovacs , Hungary (12: 7), he won the bronze medal in bantamweight (-54 kg).
