Pornchai Thongburan

Pornchai Thongburan ( Thai พร ชัย ทอง บุราณ ; born July 1, 1974 in Amphoe Kut Khaopun , Ubon Ratchathani ) is a former Thai boxer . Pornchai was a bronze medalist at the 1994 Asian Games and the 2000 Olympic Games .

Career

Pornchai began 10 years ago with the Thai boxing and moved at age 17 to boxing.

In 1994 Pornchai took part in the Asian Games , where he won a bronze medal in the light welterweight division (up to 63.5 kg). At the Asian Championships in the following year, he was eliminated in the light middleweight (up to 71 kg) starting in the first fight.

In 1997, Pornchai won its first title when it won the Southeast Asian Games. At the Asian Championships in 1999, however, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Also in 1999 he won the Southeast Asian Games.

With this success he qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games in which he reached the semi-finals after victories over Károly Balzsay , Hungary (17:12), and Mohamed Hikal , Egypt (15: 9), which he won against Marian Simion , Romania ( 26:16), lost and won the Olympic bronze medal.

After this great success, Pornchai won the Southeast Asian Games in 2001 in the light heavyweight division (up to 81 kg) and took part in the world championships in his home country without success in 2003 , as he met the later vice world champion Magomed Aripgadijew , Belarus (24: 8) in the first fight before ending his career.

After boxing, Pornchai became a NCO in the Thai Navy. He is married and has one child.
