Pawina Thongsuk

Pawina Thongsuk ( Thai : ป วีณา ทอง สุก * 18th April 1979 in the district Sikhoraphum of Surin province ) is a Thai weightlifter .

Career

Pawina Thongsuk started lifting weights in 1992. She showed great talent in this sport. After she had achieved her first national success, she came into the care of coaches Vinai Khamcheensri and Zhang Jiamin, who brought her to the top of the world. In 1999 she started at world championships for the first time and took a good fourth place. The highlight of her career so far was her Olympic victory in Athens in 2004 . She started with a body weight of 69.29 kg in the class up to 75 kg. It is noteworthy that the following year she competed in the weight class up to 63 kg body weight at the 2005 World Championships and also trained more than 6 kg. Pawina Thongsuk is 1.56 meters tall and attended Chiang Mai College.

  • 2002, 2nd place , Asian Games in Busan , up to 69 kg, with 260 kg, behind Liu Chunhong , China, 262.5 kg and in front of Mya Sando Oo, Myanmar , 250 kg;
  • 2002, 1st place , World Championships in Warsaw , up to 69 kg, with 260 kg, ahead of Valentina Popowa , Russia , 257.5 kg and Nahla Ramadan , Egypt , 245 kg;
  • 2003, 1st place , Universiade in Pavia , up to 69 kg, with 255 kg;
  • 2003, 4th place , World Championships in Vancouver , up to 69 kg, with 255 kg, behind Liu Chunhong, 270 kg, Ester Krutzler, Hungary, 262.5 kg and Walentina Popowa, 257.5 kg;
  • 2004, 2nd place , Asian Games in Almaty , up to 69 kg, with 262.5 kg, behind Liu Chunhong, China, 270 kg and in front of Irina Vlasowa, Kazakhstan , 225 kg;
  • 2004, gold medal , OS in Athens, up to 75 kg, with 272.5 kg, ahead of Natalja Zabolotnaja, Russia, 272.5 kg and Valentina Popowa, 265 kg;
  • 2005, 1st place , South East Asia Games in Bacalod / Philippines , up to 69 kg, with 257 kg, ahead of Yar The Pan, Malaysia , 232 kg and Khuat Minh Hai, Vietnam , 215 kg;
  • 2005, 1st place , World Championships in Doha , up to 63 kg, with 256 kg, ahead of Swetlana Schimkowa, Russia, 247 kg and Liu Xia, China, 238 kg
