Suriya Prasathinphimai ( Thai สุริยา ปราสาท หิน พิมาย ; born April 2, 1980 in Nakhon Ratchasima ) is a Thai boxer and kickboxer . Suriya was a silver medalist at the 2002 Asian Games and a bronze medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games and 2007 Asian Championships.

Career

Kickboxing

Suriya started professional kickboxing in 2000. He won it against the Japanese Masato . After another win, he lost in 2001 to the Australian John Wayne Parr. In 2003 he won the S1 World Championships after victories over Arslan Magomedov, Russia , Eh Phoutong, Thailand, and Farid Villaume, France . At the S1 World Championships the following year he lost in the first fight against Jean-Charles Skarbowsky, France, which ended his career as a professional kickboxer.

Boxing

In 2002 Suriya played his first international boxing championships. At the Asian Games he reached the light middleweight (-71 kg) after victories against, among others, Sirojiddin Naimov, Uzbekistan (RSC 3rd), the final, which he lost against Gennady Golovkin , Kazakhstan (RSC 3rd), and thus won the silver medal. The following year he took part in the middleweight division at the World Championships , but was eliminated in the preliminary round against Oʻtkirbek Haydarov , Uzbekistan (21: 6).

In 2004 Suriya took part in the Olympic Games , where he reached the semi-finals after victories over Joseph Lubega, Uganda (30:21), Javid Taghiev, Azerbaijan (+19: 19), and Oleg Maschkin , Ukraine (28:22) which he lost to Gaidarbek Gaidarbekow .

At the Asian Games in 2006 Suriya was eliminated from the first fight due to an injury, but the following year he won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships, losing in the semifinals to Vijender Kumar , India . In 2007 he did not get past the last sixteen at the World Championships , which he lost against Baqtijar Artajew , Kazakhstan (20: 7). He won the Southeast Asian Games that same year but tested positive for illicit use at the tournament and was suspended for a year as a result. In addition, the gold medal was withdrawn from him.

After this forced break, Suriya took part in the Asian Games again in 2010, but was eliminated in the first fight against Narmandachyn Schinebajar , Mongolia (2-1). His start at the 2011 World Championships was not very successful either. He lost his first fight against Jaba Khocitashvili, Georgia (23:11).

Muay thai

In 2012 Suriya played a Muay Thai fight against Chike Lindsay, which he won.
