Somluck Kamsing (also Kamsing, Somluck or Somrak Khamsing ; Thai สม รักษ์ คำ สิงห์ , born January 16, 1973 in Khon Kaen ) is a former Thai boxer and Muay Thai fighter. Kamsing was a bronze medalist at the Asian Championships in 1992 and 2002 and winner of the Asian Championships in 1994, the Southeast Asian Games in 1995, the Asian Games in 1994 and 1998, and the Olympic Games in 1996 . Also participated in the Olympic Games in 1992 , 2000 and 2004

Career

Boxing

Kamsing won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in 1992 in the featherweight (-57 kg). He qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games , where he won the first fight against Michael Strange, Canada (11: 9), but failed in the round of 16 against the later silver medalist Faustino Reyes , Spain (24:15).

In 1994 Kamsing won the gold medal at both the Asian Championships and the Asian Games . The 1995 Asian Championships ended for him in the preliminary round with a defeat against eventual Asian champions Bakhtiyar Tilegenov, Kazakhstan (5-3). However, he soon found his way back to his old strength and won the Southeast Asian Games in 1995 and the first Olympic gold medal for Thailand at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . Kamsing defeated the Puerto Rican Luis Seda (13: 2), the South African Philipp N'dou (12: 7), the Russian Ramaz Paliani (13: 4), the Argentine Pablo Chacón (20: 8) and in the final with 8: 5 points to the Bulgarian Serafim Todorow , who defeated the local hero Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the semifinals .

At the 1998 Asian Games, Kamsing again won the gold medal, beating the Uzbeks Tulkunbay Turgunov (8: 3) in the final. Against this he also won the final of the World Cup in Beijing in the same year (8: 4). At the World Championships the following year, however, he had to admit defeat to Turgunov (10: 2), who won the silver medal here, and was eliminated in the quarterfinals. He didn't get any further at the 2000 Olympic Games . After victories over Andres Ledesma, Colombia (4th round canceled), and Turgunov (7-2), he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Ricardo Juarez , USA (4th round canceled ).

In 2001 Kamsing rose to lightweight (-60 kg) and met his permanent opponent Turgunov again at the 2001 World Championships , to whom he had to admit defeat again this time (13: 9). At the Asian Championships in 2002 he won the bronze medal again, but the 2004 Olympic Games ended for him in the first fight against Benoit Gaudet, Canada (32:17).

Muay thai

At the age of 7, Kamsing began training in Muay Thai and soon fought his first fights. When he was 11 he went to Bangkok to fight in the bigger arenas. Kamsing rose to become one of the greatest muay thai fighters of all time, ranking first in the two largest muay thai arenas in Thailand. He played 304 fights, of which he won 291 and lost 12.

Others

Kamsing played in several films, including a. 2006 together with Jet Li in Fearless . He also started a singing career in 2006, releasing an album and a music video.
