Pablo Chacón

Julio Pablo Chacón (born May 22, 1975 in Las Heras , Mendoza ) is a former Argentine boxer . Chacón was Pan-American Champion in 1994, South American Champion in 1996, bronze medalist at the 1996 Olympic Games and, in his professional time, WBC World Champion.

Career

amateur

In 1994 Chancón won the Pan American Championships in bantamweight (-54 kg) with a final victory over Daniel Regalado, Cuba . At the Pan American Games the following year, however, he was eliminated in the first fight against Carlos Navarro, USA (10: 5). At the South American Championships in 1996 Chancón won the gold medal in the featherweight (-57 kg). In the same year he won after victories over Tyson Gray, Jamaica 6: 5), Josian Lebon, Mauritius (14: 7), and János Nagy , Hungary (18: 4), and a semi-final defeat against Somluck Kamsing , Thailand (20: 8 ), the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games .

In 2000 he got a chance at the world title of the WBA in featherweight. After twelve rounds he had to admit defeat to the American Freddie Norwood on points. In the same year he was defeated by the Argentine Claudio Victor Martinet after a close fight. Shortly afterwards he won the WBO Latin title and defended it once. In 2001 Chancón took his second chance at a world title. In Budapest he beat the reigning world champion from Hungary István Kovács by technical knockout in the sixth round. He successfully defended his title against Edward Barrios and Victor Polo before losing it again to Scott Harrison in 2002.

In the following three years Chancón did not get back on his feet properly. Although he still won the South American title and the WBO Intercontinental title, but also lost four more fights. In 2005 Chancón ended his career after 61 fights, including 54 wins (37 KOs) and 7 losses (1 KOs).
