Beksat Sattarchanov
Beksat Sattarchanow (Cyrillic Бекзат Саттарханов ; born April 4, 1980 in Turkestan , † December 31, 2000 in Shymkent ) was a Kazakh boxer .
Sattarchanow took second place in featherweight at the Junior World Championships (U19) in Beijing in 1998 . In the quarter-finals he defeated the later multiple Olympic and world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux , but lost the final against Servin Suleymanow from Ukraine .
At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he won the gold medal in the featherweight class. In the final he beat the American Ricardo Juarez on points. The victory is considered controversial; the US team demanded a revision of the result after the fight, as Sattarchanov had overly clamped in the fight. As a result of the review, the Russian referee was banned from all international competitions for four years, but the judgment remained.
Sattarchanov died on New Year's Eve in 2000 in a traffic accident in the Kazakh capital Astana at the age of twenty.
