Arkhom Chenglai

Arkhom Chenglai ( Thai อาคม เฉ่ง ไล่ ; known in Muay Thai as Issara Sakgreerin ; born June 11, 1970 in Amphoe Mueang Trang , Trang Province , southern Thailand ) is a former Thai boxer . Arkhom was a silver medalist at the 1994 Asian Games and a bronze medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games .

Career

Muay thai

Arkhom started with Muay Thai at the age of 12 and later came to Bangkok , where he became lightweight champion at the renowned Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. He beat Ramon Dekkers from Holland , among others .

Boxing

In 1991 Arkhom switched to boxing and was instantly the Thai welterweight champion (-67 kg). In 1992 he entered the Asian Championships in Bangkok and won the bronze medal. Arkhom thus qualified for the 1992 Olympic Games , in which, after victories over Yusuf Khateri, Iran (13: 7), Nicodemus Odore, Kenya (13:10), and Vitalijus Karpačiauskas , Lithuania (9: 6), the semi-finals, which he lost against the eventual Olympic champion Michael Carruth , Ireland (11: 4), and thus won the Olympic bronze medal.

In 1994 Arkhom reached the final of the World Cup in Bangkok, but had to admit defeat to Uzbek Nariman Ataev by knockout in the third round. In the same year he also won the silver medal of the Asian Games, this time beating Ataev in the semifinals, but losing in the final against Nurzhan Smanov, Kazakhstan (RSC 1st)

Others

Arkhom earned a bachelor's degree from Chandrakasem Rajabhat University and now runs a restaurant in his hometown.
