Hetaireios
Hetaireios ( ancient Greek ἑταῖρος companion, friend ) is an epiclesis of the Greek god Zeus .
Zeus Hetaireios was invoked as the protector of good friendship and companionship. Herodotus has the desperate Kroisos invoke Zeus after the death of his son with the three epics Katharsios, Epistios (Attic Ephestios) and Hetaireios. In the myth , Jason makes a sacrifice to Zeus Hetaireios after he had gathered with the Argonauts on the beach in the Thessalonian city of Magnesia . He is also said to have set up the festival Hetairideia in the city, which was celebrated there in honor of Zeus Hetaireios.
Hetairideia were also celebrated in Macedonia , where the Macedonian king made offerings. It is uncertain whether it will be a festival of the same character. A cult in Crete is documented by the late antique lexicographer Hesychios .
