Hegesandros of Delphi

Hegesandros ( ancient Greek Ἡγήσανδρος ) was a Greek writer and anecdote collector from Delphi . His life dates are not known, his lifetime is mostly in the 2nd century BC. BC. A time limit for his work is offered by the Rhodian politician Rhodophon, whom he mentioned , whose activity also with Polybius for the years 172–167 BC. Is demonstrable.

Hegesandros wrote the work Hypomnemata ( Ὑπομνήματα , German about "memories"), a collection of mostly unsecured anecdotes about famous Greeks, such as kings, philosophers or courtesans, adorned with information on customs, art and nature. The work was later quoted several times by the colored writer Athenaios , who is also the source for Hegesandros' homeland Delphi. Hegesander was also mentioned in Hesych and in the Suda .
