Franck Dannique Elemba Owaka (born July 21, 1990 in Brazzaville ) is a shot putter from the Republic of Congo , who also starts in the discus throw and holds the national record in both disciplines.

Athletic career

Franck Elemba gained his first international experience in 2009 at the Junior African Championships in Bambous , where he finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 14.93 m, while he came fifth in the discus throw with 36.23 m. He then took part in the Francophonie games in Beirut , where he classified himself in seventh place with 15.09 m in the shot put and ninth with the discus with 40.95 m. In the following year he finished fourth in the shot put at the African Championships in Nairobi with 15.90 m and came twelfth in the discus competition with 38.56 m. Then he reached the Continental Cup in Split with 15.83 m in seventh place. In 2011 he was eliminated from the qualification at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen with 15.71 m and then took part for the first time in the Africa Games in Maputo , where he finished fifth with a width of 16.44 m, as well as at the African Championships in Porto-Novo the following year with 16.23 m.

In 2013 he finished fifth at the Francophonie Games in Nice with 18.68 m and the following year he was eliminated from the qualification at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 17.74 m. Then he won the bronze medal for the first time at the African Championships in Marrakech with 18.74 m and had to admit defeat to the South Africans Orazio Cremona and Jaco Engelbrecht . Thereupon he finished seventh at the Continental Cup with 19.72 m. In 2015 he took part in the World Championships in Beijing for the first time, but retired there with 19.40 m in the qualification . He then won the African Games in Brazzaville with a new game and national record of 20.25 m in the shot put and secured the bronze medal in the discus throw with 50.30 m behind South African Russell Tucker and Essohounamondom Tchalim from Togo. In 2016 he reached 17th place at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with a width of 19.34 m and then won the silver medal behind South African Engelbrecht at the African Championships in Durban with 19.89 m. He also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the first time , where he finished fourth with a new national record of 21.20 m in the final .

In 2017 he won the Francophonie Games in Abidjan with 19.99 m and then took part again in the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated in qualifying with 19.74 m . Two years later he was sixth at the African Games in Rabat with 19.17 m and then retired at the World Championships in Doha with 19.76 m in qualification .
