Orazio Cremona (born July 1, 1989 in Johannesburg ) is a South African shot putter .

Athletic career

Orazio Cremona gained his first international experience at the Junior African Championships 2007 in Ouagadougou , where he won the silver medal with 17.66 m. In 2008 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz and was eliminated there with 18.28 m in qualification. In 2010 he took part in the African Championships in Nairobi for the first time and won the bronze medal there with 18.27 m. Two years later he won silver at the championships in Porto-Novo with 19.19 m and only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Burger Lambrechts . In 2013 he managed to qualify for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated with 19.42 m in the qualification. In 2014 he finished seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot and fourth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 20.13 m. He then won the African Championships in Marrakech with 19.84 m in front of his compatriot Jaco Engelbrecht and the Congolese Franck Elemba . At the Continental Cup in Marrakech, he came in sixth place with 19.96 m.

In 2015 he took part again in the World Championships in Beijing and scheduling there with 18.63 m in the qualification . At the 2016 African Championships in Durban , he finished fifth with 19.15 m, and at the 2017 World Championships in London , 19.81 m was not enough for a final . In 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and finished sixth there with 20.51 m. The following year he took part in the African Games in Rabat , where he came in fifth with a width of 20.06 m. He also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where 19.98 m were not enough for a final .

Between 2012 and 2019, Cremona became the South African shot put champion every year. He is a graduate of Monash South Africa in Roodepoort .
