At the XXIII. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , one hockey tournament was held for men and women. For the second time in Olympic history, a women's tournament was played, in contrast to 1980 with a normal line-up. There was no longer a women's team at the tournament in Moscow, and the IOC report noted that hockey was not affected by the counter-boycott of the Eastern Bloc countries.

Ladies

Tournament mode

The six participants played a simple "everyone against everyone" round. Gold, silver and bronze were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Main round

At the end of the round, three teams were tied in places 3 to 5. Due to the poorer goal difference, Canada came in 5th. However, Australia and the USA had exactly the same goal difference of 9: 7 and the direct comparison did not count. Therefore - immediately after the last game - there was a 7-meter shooting with 10 shots (as was common at the time) for the bronze medal, which the USA won 10: 5.
