Susanne Leonie Schmid (born August 27, 1960 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic participant in 1984 and 1988.

Susanne Leonie Schmid began her career as a goalkeeper, but switched to the field as an all-rounder after 1984. She played for the RTHC Bayer Leverkusen and won with this club in 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1987 the German championship in indoor hockey, 1982, 1983 and 1985 she was champion in field hockey. In 1987 she moved to SC 1880 Frankfurt and became German field hockey champions with this club in 1988 and 1989.

Schmid made his debut in 1979 in the German national hockey team . Her first big success was the title at the European Indoor Championships in 1981. In the same year she was goalkeeper at the World Cup in Argentina, where the German team won the title. In 1983 Schmid was fourth at the world championship, in 1984 she won bronze at the first European championship. In the same year she went to the 1984 Olympic Games as a goalkeeper . There, however, she was ousted as regular goalkeeper during the tournament by Ursula Thielemann . The German field hockey ladies won silver behind the team from the Netherlands. Two years later, the team lost to the hosts at the World Cup in the Netherlands and won silver again. After a fourth place at the 1987 European Championship, the German team finished fifth at the 1988 Olympic Games .
