Birgit Hahn

Birgit Hahn (born June 29, 1958 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German hockey player and Olympic participant in 1984.

Career

Birgit Hahn started at Viersener THC , switched to Schwarz-Weiß Neuss in 1976 and to Münchner SC a year later . The half and winger made her debut in 1975 in the German national hockey team . At the second World Cup , which took place in (West) Berlin in 1976, she was already part of the German team that won the title. Two years later she reached the final of the World Cup with the German team again , in Madrid the German team lost to the Dutch. In between, the German team had won the European indoor hockey championship in 1977. After not taking part in the world championship in 1981, Birgit Hahn was again in a world championship in 1983 and took fourth place with the German team. In May 1984, the first women's field hockey European championship was held in Lille , after a semi-final defeat by the Dutch, the German players won the bronze medal against the British. Two months later, the Dutch defeated the German team at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 6-2. In the last game against the US team, which was decisive for the medals, Birgit Hahn scored the equalizer to make it 1: 1, so the German team won silver behind the Dutch and ahead of the Americans.

Birgit Hahn played a total of 91 international matches from 1975 to 1984, 11 of them indoors.

For winning the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games, she received the silver laurel leaf with the women's hockey team.
