The palace portal in Schlossgasse in Dresden is a portal at the Dresden Residence . The portal is located on today's Schloßstraße .

description

Under Elector Christian I , a new entrance to the palace was created on Elbgasse. The Mannerist building sculpture was attached to the portal built by Paul Buchner in 1589 by Andreas Walther III . The two-storey portal porch shows a strong rustication , with two Doric half-columns flanking the gate on both sides. The four columns carry an architrave adorned with triglyphs and lion heads in the metopes . The gate shows a pelican in the keystone of the archway . Four statues resting on pedestals were placed on the architrave . These represented faith , generosity , strength and gratitude . A dome structure was built on the porch of the portal , which rested on eight Doric half-columns. The dome structure was crowned by the Justitia . In 1753 the statues on the architrave and the dome structure with the Justitia were removed.

Keystone at the gate with pelican

According to iconography, the pelican feeds its young with its own blood from its own breast.
