Heiner Dopp

Heiner Dopp (born June 27, 1956 in Bad Dürkheim ) is a former German hockey player and three-time Olympic participant. He played a total of 286 times for the German national hockey team .

Career

The attacking player Heiner Dopp began his career at Dürkheimer HC , but then moved to the Frankenthal gymnastics community . With Frankenthal he won eight German championship titles; In 1979, 1980 and 1983 he was champion in field hockey, from 1980 to 1984 Frankenthal won the championship in indoor hockey five times in a row. In 1984 the TG Frankenthal won the European Champion Clubs' Cup.

As early as 1975 Dopp made his debut in the pre-Olympic tournament in the national team. The German team won the tournament. At the 1976 Olympic Games , the German team finished fifth. After finishing fourth at the 1978 World Cup , the team won the title at the European Championships in Hanover in the same year. After winning the third European indoor championship title in 1980, the 1980 Olympic boycott was a major setback in the German hockey association's track record.

At the World Cup 1981/1982 in Bombay, the German team reached the final and lost to the Pakistani selection 1: 3. After bronze at the European Championships in 1983 and the European Indoor Championship in 1984, Heiner Dopp took part in the Olympic Games for the second time in the summer of 1984 . In the final in Los Angeles , the German team faced the Pakistani team again. After regular time ended 1-1, Pakistan made it 2-1 in extra time.

At the 1986 World Cup in London, the German team won bronze, just like a year later at the European Championships. In 1988 at the Olympic Games in Seoul, the German team won Group B in the preliminary round, beating Great Britain 2-1. In the final, these two teams faced each other again and the British won 3-1, the German goal in the final was scored by Heiner Dopp. Then Dopp ended his career as a record national player, he was then surpassed eight years later by Volker Fried .

Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting success . He is also the holder of the Rhineland-Palatinate Order of Merit , awarded by the then Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel .

As a coach, Heiner Dopp led the Dürkheimer HC to the German championship and was European Cup winner. He is currently the national coach for hockey. The trained winemaker lives in Meckenheim , where he was honorary local mayor from 1999 to 2019 .
