Volker Fried

Volker Fried (born February 1, 1961 in Osnabrück ) is a former hockey player from Cologne who played for Germany in four consecutive Summer Olympics.

With the German national team, he won the gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 , his greatest success after winning silver at the two previous Olympic Games in Los Angeles (1984) and Seoul (1988) .

For winning the gold medal, he and the German hockey team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993.

Between 1980 and 1996, Volker Fried played a total of 290 international matches for Germany. In 1996 he retired from the international scene after the Olympic Games in Atlanta . After his active career he became a coach at the hockey club Düsseldorfer HC . In June 2014 he rose as a coach with the Rheydter Spielverein in the 2nd Bundesliga and as a player-coach with the reserve of the Rheydter Spielverein in the upper league. In 2015 he is the trainer of the women's team at RTHC Bayer Leverkusen .
