The Düsseldorfer Hockey Club 1905 (DHC) is a hockey and tennis club, whose women's team currently plays in the field and hall in the 1st Bundesliga and the men's team in the field in the 2nd Bundesliga and indoors in the 1st Bundesliga.

Its history began in 1905 on the courts of what was then the Düsseldorf Lawn Tennis Club, today's Rochus Club . The DHC was founded by Ernst Poensgen (1871–1949), who was also 1st Chairman until 1937, and several other members, including a. the English consul King and his sister. Initially, the game was played on the Rochus Club's tennis courts, which were not used in winter, but they soon switched to the meadow area “an der Rheinlust” in Oberkassel, a little below today's Rheinallee near the youth hostel. In 1910, the DHC relocated its games to the large meadow of the "Kaiser Wilhelm Park", today's Rheinpark on Cecilienallee. In 1924 the DHC made a fresh start near the Honigheim restaurant in the Mörsenbroich district, not far from the Rochus Club at the foot of the Grafenberg Forest. In 1936 the DHC had to say goodbye to its facility in Mörsenbroich because barracks were being built there. The DHC moved to the then Rheinstadion for two years. In 1938 the company moved to Lörick on Amboßstraße, not far from the local cycling track , in what is now the Am Seestern office area . The entire club complex was completely renovated between 2012 and 2014; The DHC currently has two artificial turf hockey courts, six tennis courts and a hockey and tennis hall. The DHC became known through its hockey department. In the DHC z. Currently over 40 hockey teams, including 25 youth teams. The club has around 1650 members and is one of the most established and successful competitive sports clubs in the state capital, is by far the largest hockey club in the region and, with more than 650 young people, is one of the clubs with the most youth members in Germany. Under their coach Volker Fried at the time, the men's team was second in the table in the northern group of the 2nd field hockey Bundesliga in 2004, 2005 and 2006 . In the 2006/2007 season, the DHC then asserted themselves sovereignly without losing a point and rose to the 1st Bundesliga . In the recent past, the DHC provided two German national team players with Oliver Korn (gold medal winner 2008 and 2012) and Jan Simon. Korn and Simon led their team to the final of the German field championship in 2008, in which they were defeated by the club on the Alster. The team was unable to build on this success in the following three years, but managed to stay up until 2013 and then relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga under their coach Uli Bergmann. His successor Akim Bouchouchi managed to get promoted back to the 1st Bundesliga in the 2013/2014 season, but was relegated again in the following 2014/2015 season. For the 2017/18 season they were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga again.

In the hall, the leap into the Bundesliga was made for the first time in 1999. After an interlude in the second division in 2004, the team qualified for the quarter-finals of the German championship between 2005 and 2007 as second in the western group. After being there against the Rüsselsheim RK in 2005 and against the Berlin HC in 2006, the Düsseldorf HC reached the final of the German Indoor Championship in 2007. In the finals with the lowest number of goals ever, the DHC was only slightly inferior to the Crefeld HTC at 0: 1. In the following years, the team managed to stay in the league and is still in the 1st indoor Bundesliga, the current coach is Akim Bouchouchi.

Ladies

The women's team also played in the field hockey Bundesliga , was only able to prevent the fall from the regional league to the upper league on the last match day after relegation in 2001 and was promoted to the second Bundesliga in 2004. There the team reached in the years 2005-2007 placements in the upper half of the table. In 2008 the double ascent was almost a success. In the indoor season 2007/2008 they went confidently into the hall Bundesliga on, on the field you just missed due to the inferior goal difference to jump in Germany's top flight. A year later, the team sensationally made it into the German semi-finals as a newcomer in the hall, and in the same year they made it to the 1st field league. In the 2009/2010 season, the women reached the quarter-finals in the hall and the German semi-finals in the field. In the 2014/15 indoor season, the DHC became German champions for the first time. In the 2014/2015 field season, the team finished second in the Bundesliga season and narrowly failed in the semi-finals at the eventual champions UHC. Lisa Marie Schütze , Luisa Steindor and Selin Oruz are three players from the DHC in the 2015 German women's A-team . The DHC women are currently playing in the field and hall in the 1st Bundesliga, current coach is Nico Sussenburger.

youth

In the youth field, the club won a total of 18 German championship titles, most recently in spring 2019; In 2018/19 alone he was German champion three times. A number of youth players in the Düsseldorf Hockey Club are or were national or West German players in the youth field.

tennis

Tennis has been played at the DHC since 1938. In addition to the 1st women and 1st men, around 13 teams are registered for the media games every year. Tennis training in the DHC is carried out all year round by two full-time tennis trainers (winter season: club's own hall). No major regional or even nationwide successes have been recorded in recent years.
