The Intercontinental Rally Challenge (abbreviated IRC ) was founded in 2006 by Eurosport and the FIA and was held until 2012. For the 2013 season, the IRC merged with the European Rally Championship (ERC) and the previous IRC promoter Eurosport-Events took over the marketing of the ERC. That meant the end of the IRC.

This rally series should offer talented young drivers and amateurs in rallying an international future.

The racing series, which made its debut year in the 2006 season with a program of four European rallies, became more international in 2007. In 2007 there were nine rallies in Europe , Asia and Africa . In 2008 there were already ten events. In 2009 the series continued to grow and now comprised eleven rallies around the world. The rallye Monte Carlo started in 2009, as it was not on the calendar of the World Rally Championship in 2009 due to the principle of rotation . In 2011, the manufacturers Abarth , Honda , M-Sport , Peugeot , Proton , Ralliart , Škoda and Subaru competed , which ensured brand diversity.

In the IRC, Super 2000 vehicles and rally cars of Group N and Group A were allowed up to 2000 cc. The manufacturers and drivers who were registered were allowed to score.

All events could be seen, some live, on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
