Nicolas Vouilloz (born February 8, 1976 in Nice ) is a French mountain biker and rally driver .
Career
Mountain bike
Nicolas Vouilloz was first known as a mountain biker. In 1992, 1993 and 1994 he won the Junior Mountain Bike World Championships in downhill . The Elite followed in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002 seven further world championship titles in downhill. He also won the Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000 .
When Vouilloz increased his involvement in rallying in 2003, he temporarily ended his career as a mountain biker. In 2006 he returned to the mountain bike and competed in the Megavalanche in L'Alpe d'Huez , which he finished as the winner. In 2007 he also took part in a World Cup race. After he had largely scaled back his activities in rallying, he regularly competed in Enduro in 2010 .
Vouilloz also started working as a developer for the French bicycle manufacturer Lapierre . He has been a permanent employee of Lapierre since 2011.
Rallying
During his active career as a mountain biker, Vouilloz also came into contact with rallying. In 2001, he started with a Renault Clio RS for the Monte Carlo Rally . In the following two years he drove a Peugeot 206 in the French rally championship for vehicles of the Super 1600 class . He achieved his first major success in 2003 when he won the one-make cup Volant Peugeot 206 . From 2004 Vouilloz was sponsored by the French motorsport association FFSA . He got a place in the semi-works team Bozian Racing and took part in seven rallies of the World Rally Championship in the Peugeot 206 WRC . His best result was a ninth place at the Rally Great Britain . In 2005 he started in a Subaru Impreza WRC from First Motorsport and later in a Škoda Fabia WRC in the French rally championship. He won the Lyon-Charbonnières rally and took the podium three more times. He finished the championship in fourth place. Vouilloz competed in the 2006 season as a driver for Team BSA , which fielded a Peugeot 307 WRC . With a total of four victories in the Lyon-Charbonnières rally, the Alsace-Vosges rally , the Limousin rally and the Var rally, as well as two second places, he became French rally champion.
Then Vouilloz got into the newly founded Intercontinental Rally Challenge . In the 2007 season he drove a Peugeot 207 S2000 from Peugeot Sport España . He achieved victories at the Rally Turkey , the Barum Czech Rally Zlín and the Rallye International du Valais as well as two other podium finishes. In the championship he was only just beaten second. In 2008 Vouilloz switched to the Belgian Peugeot team Kronos Racing . He was on the podium after eight of nine rallies. Despite only one victory at the Madeira Rally , he collected enough points to win the title and celebrate the greatest success of his career in rallying so far. The 2009 season, however, was less successful again. Vouilloz regularly suffered failures and although he achieved four podium positions, he was never at the top of the podium. In the final result of the championship he finished fourth.
Since Vouilloz was mainly active as a mountain biker again from 2010, he has only made guest starts in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge since then. After his contract with Peugeot was not renewed, he received a cockpit in a Škoda Fabia S2000 for the Monte Carlo Rally at Škoda Motorsport . There he was third in 2010 and seventh in 2011 .
