Steve Peat (born June 17, 1974 in Chapeltown , North Yorkshire ) is a British mountain biker who is particularly successful in the downhill discipline .

Life

Steve Peat started cycling at the age of three. Before entering the mountain bike scene, he rode BMX . After school, he drove his first races at the age of 19.

Peat is a three-time UCI Downhill World Cup overall winner (2002, 2004 and 2006). After 17 World Cup victories to date, seven British, two European championship titles and three silver medals at mountain bike world championships in downhill, he became world champion in this discipline for the first time on September 6, 2009.

He was made an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University in November 2008 . Peat comes from Sheffield - the title honored his achievements in sport and contributions to local charity campaigns in Sheffield. Peat is married and has two sons.
