George David Atherton (born February 26, 1985 near Salisbury , Great Britain ), known as Gee Atherton , is a British mountain biker .

Atherton is particularly successful in the mountain bike disciplines of downhill and four cross . He won his first World Cup race in 2004 in Schladming ( Austria ). In the same year he also took second place at the Red Bull Rampage , which is known among freeriders . After numerous successes at worldwide mountain bike events, he came third in the 2008 World Cup in Downhill (DHI). In 2008 he also won the Downhill World Championships in Val di Sol ahead of fellow countryman Steve Peat and Sam Hill. He had his most successful year in the 2010 season. He won several World Cup races and the overall World Cup and again took second place at the Red Bull Rampage.
