The Škoda Fabia I was a small car produced by Škoda Auto . It came onto the market at the end of 1999 as the successor to the Škoda Felicia .

The vehicle is the first small car in the Volkswagen Group to be based on the PQ24 platform. This platform was developed by Škoda for the small cars of the entire VW Group so that many vehicles could be built on one platform with common components. These include the later released VW Polo IV (9N) and Seat Ibiza III (6L) .

The PQ24 platform offered innovations such as the networking of vehicle electronics via a controller network.

Model history

First, the five-door hatchback model came on the market in December 1999. The second version, the Combi, was presented in April 2000 , followed by the Sedan ( notchback ) as a further derivative in November 2000 . The city delivery van Fabia Praktik , which was launched at the same time and based on the Combi, had only two seats to enable tax-saving truck registration .

While the sedan, like many other notchback vehicles in this vehicle class, sold rather poorly in Germany, the Combi in particular achieved good sales figures, since otherwise only Peugeot with the 206 SW has a classic station wagon as a small car in its range. With a length of 4.23 m, the Combi was just as long as the first model of the VW Passat .

From summer 2003 to the end of 2006 there was a sporty variant called RS (in Great Britain and Ireland vRS ), which made 131 hp. The RS version was only available as a hatchback.

Facelift

In August 2004, the Fabia I was given a facelift, which included modified taillights (C-Design), modified front bumpers and modified fog lights and also minor changes to the interior. In addition, the hard plastic battery surround was omitted.

In spring 2007 the successor Škoda Fabia II came onto the market, but it is no longer available as a notchback version. The first generation is still offered on the African market in the notchback version, but there it bears the model name Škoda Octavia under the model code Y9N. In contrast, the small car model was also replaced there by the current second generation. Fitter of the African Octavia is the Kenyan Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd .

Furnishing

The Fabia was available in the equipment lines "Classic", "Comfort" and "Elegance", with the higher equipment lines each containing the scope of the lower lines and adding additional features.
