The Škoda 973 was the prototype of an off-road vehicle with all-wheel drive . The four-seater Kübelwagen with a fabric top was developed in 1952 and had a self-supporting solid steel body.

The water-cooled, overhead steering four-cylinder four-stroke in-line engine had a displacement of 1221 cm³ and an output of 45 hp (33 kW). He accelerated the 1190 kg vehicle on land up to 90 km / h. The drive power was passed on to all four wheels via the main gear with reduction and differential gear flanged to the engine block.

This vehicle was also available with a larger engine with a displacement of 1491 cm³ and an output of 52 hp (38 kW). This did not change his performance.

Series production never came about.
