The Škoda Octavia II was the second generation of the Octavia and was introduced in February 2004. It was based on the platform PQ35 of Volkswagen Group , on among other things, Audi A3 8P , Seat Leon II and Seat Altea and Volkswagen Golf V , VW Golf VI , the VW Golf Plus and VW Touran I built up. The Federal Motor Transport Authority places the Octavia in the compact class , while the trade press sometimes lists it in the middle class .

Apart from a new range of engines it different body changes and more legroom in the rear and increased ground clearance at front end and tail of its predecessor Octavia I .

In 2006 the Octavia Combi won the red dot design award in the product design category. The Octavia was produced in Europe at the Mladá Boleslav and Vrchlabí plants in the Czech Republic and, from 2008 to 2010, also in Bratislava , Slovakia . It was produced in China, Russia and India, only adapted for the local market.

In India , the second generation Octavia was marketed as Laura to distinguish it from the first generation. In Austria there is a van version of the Octavia called Praktik .

The trunk volume is 580 liters in the Combi (1630 liters with the rear seat folded down) and 560 liters in the sedan (1430 liters with the rear seat folded down).

Facelift

On January 3, 2009, the market launch of a version of the Octavia, which can be ordered from the end of 2008 and which has been revised in appearance and technology and which Škoda presented in October 2008 at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris.

At the front, the shape of the headlights and fog lights and the grille were changed. In addition, the lower air inlet was narrowed, the black plastic bumper strips were omitted. The revised model also received larger exterior mirrors and painted side protection strips. At the rear, the design of the taillights was modified and the reflectors were now - as was previously the case with the RS models - in the lower part of the bumper, which was now completely painted in the vehicle color, the shape of which was also changed. Furthermore, new exterior paintwork and light alloy wheels were available.

In the interior there were different seat covers and higher quality materials. The controls for the air conditioning, the audio system, the steering wheel and the instrument panel were also changed. The looks of the RS and Scout were only adjusted in May 2009.

The new engine was the 1.4 TSI with 90 kW (122 PS), which, like all TSI engines, can be combined with the seven- speed DSG (direct shift gearbox). Xenon headlights with cornering lights and front headrests with whiplash protection as standard were also available as options. There is also a GreenLine version with a 1.6 TDI engine with 77 kW.

Octavia RS

From September 2005 the sportier Octavia RS, in Great Britain and Ireland vRS , was available both as an estate car and as a sedan. The petrol version with 147 kW (200 PS) was supplemented in August 2006 by a diesel with 125 kW (170 PS). Differences to the production vehicle are the standard xenon headlights as well as a modified front section with a larger cooling air opening and a modified rear apron with reflectors . Due to the more powerful engine, the brake discs were enlarged to 312 mm in diameter. The 125 kW diesel was delivered as a pump-nozzle engine from mid-2006 and replaced by a 125 kW common rail diesel in mid-2008.

At the beginning of 2009, the Octavia RS experienced a facelift in the interior and an optical revision. The newly designed Climatronic air conditioning system , the new music systems and the modified speedometer unit are adopted here. There is also a new three-spoke sports steering wheel in the interior. A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles is offered in conjunction with the direct shift gearbox (DSG) . Externally, the front section, the apron and the lights and the mirrors in particular have been redesigned.

In winter 2009 a driver with an Octavia Combi RS landed on the roof of the Limbach town church after a flight of 30 to 40 meters.

Octavia Scout

From 2007, the Octavia Scout, a soft-off-road version of the Octavia, was available. Thanks to all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance, this offers improved off-road capabilities. The body lift has been increased by a further four centimeters compared to the Octavia 4x4 to 18 cm. Power is distributed to all four wheels via a Haldex multi-plate clutch . This drive unit was also used in the Audi Golf V and A3.

It was available with two petrol engines with 1.8 TSI 118 kW (160 PS) and 2.0 FSI 110 kW (150 PS) as well as with a diesel engine with 2.0 TDI 103 kW (140 PS).

At the beginning of 2009, the Octavia Scout was also revised and adapted to the current brand design. This model variant was discontinued in April 2012.

Octavia Tour

Škoda Octavia Tour (2010–2012)
Interior of the Octavia Tour

From the end of 2010 to mid-2012, the first version of the second generation Octavia was sold as a tour version in some countries (e.g. the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria). It was considered the successor to the first Octavia Tour, which was produced in parallel with the new generation until 2010.

The second Octavia Tour has the slightly simpler interior of the modified Octavia II, such as the lack of chrome applications on the gear lever, steering wheel and door handles, as well as a missing cover cap in the upper middle compartment of the dashboard, but the same exterior except for the unpainted plastic exterior mirrors and door handles and the missing side protection strips Design of the first Octavia II versions. In Europe it was only available with 1.4 59 kW (80 PS) and 1.6 75 kW (102 PS) petrol engines.

The production of the Octavia Tour II was discontinued with the end of the model year 2012 (week 21/2012). As announced by the then Škoda boss Reinhard Jung, the Škoda Rapid will fill the gap between the Škoda Fabia II and the Škoda Octavia III instead of the Tour from 2013 .

Octavia Green E Line

In 2010, an electric concept vehicle based on the Octavia was presented at the Paris Motor Show. The manufacturer stated that with the 180 lithium-ion cells a range of 140 kilometers could be achieved. The battery weighs 315 kilograms and charges a total of eight hours in connection with a 230 volt power supply. The battery drives a motor with a continuous output of 60 kW. If required, this can be expanded to 85 kW. The unit with a maximum torque of 270 Nm accelerates the vehicle from zero to 100 km / h within twelve seconds and is limited to a top speed of 135 km / h. The vehicle has a black roof covered with solar panels and flat rims .
