The Škoda Octavia III is the third generation of the Škoda Octavia car model , which has been available since February 2013. The vehicle is based on the VW Group's modular transverse matrix (MQB) and was officially presented in mid-December 2012 at the Škoda Muzeum . It has been built as a sedan at the Škoda Mladá Boleslav plant since December 17 and as a station wagon since the beginning of April 2013. The Octavia model is registered as a compact class vehicle with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. The motor press regularly categorizes the car as a mid-range car due to its size .

Model history

The vehicle is up to 102 kg lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels. As a result, the CO 2 emissions of the GreenLine equipment variant are 89 g / km and the fuel consumption is 3.4 l diesel per 100 kilometers. The trunk volume of the sedan is 590 l, while the station wagon offers 610 l. The price level has remained constant compared to the predecessor. The multi-link rear axle of the predecessor is replaced by a torsion beam axle for engines up to 110 kW .

The sedan has been available since mid-February 2013 , while the station wagon ( called Combi ) has been on the market since May 25, 2013.

The RS and Scout equipment variants followed in late summer 2013 , with the RS again being available with a petrol or diesel engine.

Facelift

In November 2016, Škoda presented the facelift of the Octavia. This has a new front section and modified rear lights. The most noticeable change are the headlights, which are divided into two parts. In the facelift, the optional online services Škoda Connect known from the Škoda Kodiaq are available.

Technology and security

Various security systems are available as standard or as an extra at an additional cost. These include an emergency brake assist , a lane detection system , a multi-collision brake and a drowsiness detection . In EU countries, knee airbags and side airbags in the rear are also fitted as standard . At the beginning of production, a pedestrian protection system was also integrated in the bonnet, which was removed again in mid-2013. As a direct consequence, the Euro NCAP pedestrian protection score was reduced to 24 points or 66% (up to May 2013 30 points / 82%).

In addition to KESSY (Keyless Entry Start and Exit System), comfort functions such as adaptive cruise control , high beam assistant and traffic sign recognition are available for the first time in a Škoda . A sound system from Canton and further developed multimedia systems can also be configured.

Exterior paintwork

Three solid colors (candy white, corrida red, pacific blue) and six metallic colors are available at the start of sales: brilliant silver, cappuccino beige, denim blue, quartz gray, race blue, Rio red , Topaz brown. Furthermore, with Black Magic and Moon White, two pearl effect finishes are available.

The RS variant is available in candy white, corrida red and steel gray. The single-color sprint yellow is no longer available. There are also the following metallic paint finishes: Brilliant silver, quartz gray, race blue, rally green, Rio red. Pearl-effect paints are also available: Black-Magic, Moon-White.

Engines

Initially, four TSI petrol engines and four common rail diesel engines were available for the Octavia . At the time of market launch, the power of the gasoline engines was between 86 hp (63 kW) with a 1.2 l displacement and 180 hp (132 kW) with the 1.8 l TSI engine. The power range of the diesel engines ranged from 90 PS (66 kW) with 1.6 l displacement to 110 PS (81 kW) with the GreenLine equipment variant up to 150 PS (110 kW) of a 2 l engine. A Green tec variant with a start-stop system and recuperation is available for all engines . The vehicles can be equipped with manual or automatic direct shift gearboxes (DSG) . Variants with all-wheel drive as well as a Scout, RS and a particularly luxurious Laurin & Klement version are also planned.

The petrol engines should consume up to 23 percent less than the earlier ones, they come from the engine series EA211 (1.2 TSI, 1.4 TSI) and EA888 (1.8 TSI, 2.0 TSI) of the VW Group, which is used in the Audi A3 8V , Seat Leon III and VW Golf VII can be used. Gasoline and diesel engines also warm up faster due to a modified exhaust system, which is supposed to reduce fuel consumption.
