The Seat Leon III (Type 5F) is a compact class vehicle from Seat .

The model presented at the Paris Motor Show reached dealers on November 24, 2012. Like the VW Golf VII , the Audi A3 8V and the Škoda Octavia III, it is based on the modular transverse matrix .

The Leon III is around 5 cm shorter than its predecessor, but has a wheelbase that is 6 cm larger. This created a trunk volume of 380 liters (40 liters more than in the predecessor). The weight was reduced by about 90 kilograms.

Seat offers gasoline and diesel engines with turbochargers (TSI and TDI) as well as a natural gas variant (TGI) for the Leon III. The previous entry-level engine, the 1.4 16V with 63 kW (85 PS), is no longer available in favor of the 1.2 TFSI (TSI) with 63 kW, which is already known in the Volkswagen Group. The Leon III is available with halogen or full LED headlights . Xenon headlights are not available.

Seat is also introducing its new Easy Connect multimedia system in the Leon III. The new assistance systems include a drowsiness detection system , a lane departure warning , an automatic distance control , a traffic sign recognition and a high-beam assistant .

Over a million vehicles of the Leon III had been sold by 2020.

variants

Seat Leon Style as a patrol car of the Italian police

In addition to the five-door hatchback, the third generation of the Seat Leon is also available as a three-door variant (SC) for the first time since mid-2013. In September 2013, Seat presented the Leon ST station wagon at the 65th IAA in Frankfurt am Main . Its trunk has a volume of 587 to 1470 liters. It has been available since 2014. The station wagon has also been available with all-wheel drive (4Drive) since April 2014. This makes it the first Seat Leon - after the 1.8T, 1.9 TDI 110 kW and the first generation Cupra V6 - to be equipped with all-wheel drive.

Cupra

Leon ST Cupra R

The Leon Cupra has been on sale since March 2014.

Since March 2015 the Leon ST has also been available as a Cupra variant with the 265 and 206 kW / 280 PS known from the Leon SC Cupra and Leon Cupra.

The Seat Leon SC Cupra and Leon Cupra as well as the Leon ST with 290 HP (instead of 280 HP) have been available since August 2015.

Since February 2017, all Seat Leon Cupra versions have only been offered with a 300 hp engine - the ST version (station wagon) is also available with all-wheel drive (4Drive).

At the IAA in September 2017, Seat presented the Leon Cupra R. The special model, limited to 799 copies, has only been offered as a five-door model since November 2017. The performance has been increased by 10 hp to 310 hp compared to the Cupra.

The Seat Leon Cupra ST 370 special model with 370 PS has been available exclusively in Switzerland since mid-2018. The special model has an exclusive special equipment, including a sports exhaust system with 4-way tailpipe, 19 ″ aluminum rims CUPRA R, rear diffuser, side skirts and front spoiler lip with carbon fiber accents. There are also bucket seats in Alcantara and a Brembo brake system with black-painted brake calipers, available at an additional cost.

Since the beginning of 2019 the Seat Leon Cupra (5-door) and the Seat Leon Cupra ST (station wagon) are only offered with 290 hp. The Seat Leon Cupra SC (3-door) is no longer available. The reason for the reduction in performance is the gasoline particle filter, which has to be installed due to the WLTP test cycle. Only the Seat Leon Cupra ST 4Drive (station wagon with all-wheel drive) is still available with 300 hp and a gasoline particulate filter.

Equipment lines

In Germany, the equipment lines Leon (basic equipment), Reference , Style , FR (Formula Racing), Xcellence , Connect and the sports variants Cupra 265 and Cupra 280 are offered. The two sports variants Cupra were initially only available for the Leon SC and Leon five-door, since March 7, 2015 they have also been available for the Kombi ST. In the X-Perience equipment line there is also the ST with all-wheel drive. Since the facelift at the beginning of 2017, the Xcellence equipment line, which is designed for comfort, has also been offered.

All vehicles are equipped as standard with safety systems such as seven airbags as well as ABS , ESC and ASR .
