The Seat Ibiza I is the first Ibiza introduced by the Spanish car manufacturer Seat in July 1984 . It was an in-house development on the Seat Ronda platform . The body of the Ibiza comes from Giorgetto Giugiaro , who also designed the VW Golf , the Fiat Uno and many other vehicles. With the exception of the 1.7-liter diesel engine, the engines from 1.2 l displacement were developed by Porsche. These were engines of the EA801 type from VW, the displacement of which was increased to 1.5 l and which were (partially) equipped with L-Jetronic . The other engines are from Fiat.
The first model of the Seat Ibiza was available in the following trim levels:
Special, J, L, XL, CL, CLX, GLX, SX, SXI, Crono, Comfort, Disco, Friend and Sportline, whereby the SXI and Sportline '93 variants were best equipped:
- 07/84: Start of delivery of the first Ibiza in Spain
- 01/85: Ibiza available with 1.7-liter diesel engine from Fiat
- 10/86: Presentation of the five-door version of the Ibiza; also: exhaust system with absorption damper, dampens the standing and driving noises and 6 years guarantee against rust perforation
- 06/87: The chassis is being revised
- 04/88: Ibiza with 1.5 liter engine is available with catalytic converter
- 11/88: radiator grille in body color with 4 cross struts, new dashboard with storage compartment, larger glove compartment, new steering wheel, heating and ventilation revised and more powerful, newly shaped seats with a larger adjustment range; Use of the 1.5-l engine with LU-Jetronic (Bosch EZ 11 ignition controller)
- 03/89: Passenger grab handle and exterior mirror on the right as standard and revised gearbox
- 11/89: Ibiza available with 1.2 l engine with 52 kW and catalytic converter
- 03/91: Facelift (021A) with:
- Next to the headlights, front indicators with white cover glass
- reshaped grille / air intake
- revised bumpers with new profiling
- enlarged exterior mirrors
- partially tinted rear lights from HELLA with VW electronics
- Fender flares on the Sportline model
- modified alloy wheels
- VW steering column switches and some switches in the interior
- 11/91: 1.7 l engine with 74 kW and LU2-Jetronic from Bosch; Introduction of the special model Sportline with 1.7-liter engines
The standard equipment of the Sportline :
- central locking system
- electric window lifters in front, with two-door hinged windows in the back
- Fender flares and exterior mirrors painted in body color
- Fog lights integrated in the bumper
- small center console
- modified steering wheel with "Sportline" lettering
- modified gear lever "Sport"
- Stickers with the words "Sportline" attached to the outside of the doors and the tailgate
- Headrest inserts with embroidered "Sportline" lettering
- Sports seats
- Bumpers and roof spoiler painted in body color
- Metallic paint
Some vehicles were equipped with air conditioning. Furthermore, in a few countries, for example in Austria and Switzerland, a model with a 1.5 l turbo engine with catalytic converter and 80 kW (109 hp) was sold.
- 05/93: End of production in Barcelona. Presentation of the successor based on VW.
- 08/97: Sale of the production facilities to Nanjing (China)
- 01/99: Production resumed with slight changes under the name Nanjing Yuejin NJ6400
- 02/03: Facelift and new model name Nanjing Yuejin NJ6400 / 7150 Encore / Soyat
