The Seat Tarraco is the third SUV from the Spanish car manufacturer Seat after the Seat Arona and the Seat Ateca .
Model history
The Tarraco is based on the modular transverse matrix from the Volkswagen Group and is therefore closely related to the VW Tiguan Allspace and the Škoda Kodiaq . This is why the SUV, which is optionally available with seven seats, is also manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg . The production model was presented on September 18, 2018.
At the International Motor Show in September 2019, Seat presented the Tarraco as a plug-in hybrid version with the drive train from the VW Passat GTE . After the WLTP cycle, this drive should enable an electric range of 50 kilometers and will be sold from 2020.
For the Chinese market, the model will be produced by FAW-Volkswagen in Chengdu as the Jetta VS7 from 2020 . It is the most expensive SUV from the newly established own brand Jetta .

background
The name of the vehicle is said to recall Tarraco , the former capital of the Roman province of Tarraconensis . This corresponds to the ancient name of today's Catalan city of Tarragona .
The name of the SUV was determined through a public vote. Everyone could suggest a name related to a Spanish city. A total of 10,130 suggestions from over 130,000 people were received. After a check based on linguistic and legal criteria, the names Alboran , Aranda , Avila and Tarraco were finally available for a final vote. The name of the new SUV was originally supposed to be announced in October 2017, but due to the independence referendum in Catalonia , Seat finally announced the name on February 19, 2018. Of around 150,000 participants, more than 35 percent voted for Tarraco .
