The Seat 124 is a lower middle class passenger car produced from the beginning of 1968 to autumn 1980 . Like the Lada  2101, it is a license for the Fiat 124 .

General

In addition to the four-door notchback sedan, there was also a five-door station wagon, which in Spain was called Seat 124 5 puertas . Except for details, both models corresponded to their Italian models published two years earlier. For a long time the only engine was an in-line four-cylinder with a displacement of 1197 cm³, which made 44 kW (60 hp).

In autumn 1972 the following variants, Seat 124 D Sedan and Seat 124 D 5 puertas, appeared . Nothing had changed on the engine, the front and rear were slightly changed. These types were made for eight years.

From the end of 1976 the Seat 124 D Especial 1800 (only as a sedan) offered a new engine with 1756 cm³ and 87 kW (118 hp). In the last year of production 1980 there was the Seat 124 D Especial 2000 with a further enlarged engine (1920 cm³, 84 kW / 114 PS). Both vehicles reached 175 km / h and 180 km / h respectively.

Parallel to the Italian types, there was a Seat 124 Sport Coupé from spring 1970 . Like the original from Fiat, it had a 4-cylinder in-line engine with 1608 cm³ and 81 kW (110 hp). Its top speed was 180 km / h. After three years there was - in Italy as in Spain - a larger engine that corresponded to that of the Seat 124 D Especial 1800.

The coupe was discontinued in early 1976. However, there was no Spider like the Fiat counterpart.

successor

When the production of sedans and station wagons was also discontinued in October 1980, it was the brand's most successful vehicle to date with 900,000 copies ( counted together with the almost identical Seat 1430 ). The Seat Ritmo was introduced as a successor model back in 1979 .
