The Škoda Citigo is a compact car from Škoda Auto . The vehicle appeared on the Czech market in late 2011 and in the rest of Europe in April 2012 . The five-door variant was presented on March 6, 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show . The name Citigo is a made-up word or suitcase word made up of the English terms “City” and “go” (to go) .

Model history

Rear view

The small car, which was painted in metallic green, was shown to the public on the Škoda Auto website. Almost at the same time, the Škoda MissionL study was shown at an automobile exhibition. The vehicle has been in production since October 13, 2011 and appeared on the Czech automobile market in December 2011.

At the beginning only a three-door was offered. The vehicle is 3.56 meters long and can accommodate four passengers . A five-door version was also added to the range for the German market launch in spring 2012.

The VW up! Serves as the basis of the Citigo . . The New Small Family , i.e. the Škoda Citigo, VW up! and the Seat Mii , are manufactured in the Slovakian plant in Bratislava . The three-cylinder engines, clutches and transmissions were partly developed in the Škoda main plant in Mladá Boleslav and are also partly manufactured there for the technology group shelf. Citigo and Up! differed primarily in their design language. The main distinguishing features are the front apron, the rear side windows, which are significantly larger than the Up! and the wider rear apron of the Citigo. Instead of black glass at the rear, sheet metal is used on the Citigo .

The Citigo is the first series production vehicle from Škoda to bear the new brand design and vehicle logo; this differs significantly from the company logo. The manufacturer stated on its website that some vehicles with the old logo could still be delivered until the 12th calendar week of 2012.

In May 2014, the 100,000th Citigo rolled off the assembly line at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava.

The Citigo-e iV replaces the combustion version.

With the presentation of the Citigo-e iV , Škoda has given the vehicle a visual makeover. It was adapted to the current Škoda design language.

Furnishing

There is a choice of four equipment variants: Easy, Active, Ambition and Elegance. In general, both basic and additional equipment differ depending on the country of delivery. For example, in the Austrian trim Ambition an air conditioning included, not in German.

The basic equipment includes two front airbags and two head / thorax side airbags for the driver and front passenger, electromechanical power steering (not in the German Easy version ), ESP and ABS . An emergency braking assistant ( City Safe Drive ) is available as an additional feature , which detects possible dangers from a laser at a maximum driving speed of 30 km / h and automatically brings the vehicle to braking.

Other driver assistance systems are - depending on the equipment line - ASR ( traction control ), EDS (electronic differential lock ), hill start assist (HHC Hill-Hold-Control), MSR ( engine drag torque control ), automatic activation of the hazard warning lights during emergency braking , parking aid and gear change indicator for manual transmission .

The instrument cluster is available in two versions. The basic version only contains an analog speedometer and a multifunctional display, the extended version also includes an analog tachometer and a fuel gauge. In some versions the glove box is without a flap. A hidden storage option in the passenger compartment is then not available.

The trunk offers 251 liters of space, but can be enlarged to 951 liters by folding down the rear seat bench, either divided or not, depending on the version.

Citigo Sport

From March 2013 to April 2014 the Citigo Sport was available as a three- and five-door model. The special model was based on the Ambition equipment line and also offers 16-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension + lowering by 15 millimeters (except CNG version) and a tinted rear window. The exterior colors were candy white, tornado red and deep black, pearl effect.

Citigo Monte Carlo

The Citigo Monte Carlo has been available as a three- and five-door model since May 2014. Like the Citigo Sport, the special model is based on the Ambition equipment line and also offers 16-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, lowering by 15 millimeters (except CNG version) and a tinted rear window. The exterior colors are candy white, tornado red and deep black, pearl effect. In addition, clear black accents have been chosen for the design, e.g. B. black instead of gray sky in the vehicle interior and black instead of chrome grille elements.

safety

In Euro NCAP - Crash test the vehicle in 2011 was rated with five stars out of five. In the adult occupant safety assessment, the tested vehicle achieved 89% and the child occupant safety 80%. In the area of pedestrian protection, the vehicle received 46% of the points, the standard safety equipment was rated with 86% of the possible number of points.

technology

Since the market launch, a 1.0 liter naturally aspirated engine for gasoline operation has been available in two power versions (44 kW or 55 kW). A more economical version, the so-called “ Green tec ” version, was available for an additional charge . This also has a start-stop system , low-friction tires , a lowering of 15 mm, as well as a very simple brake energy recovery system , which increases the performance of the alternator when braking and thus uses part of the braking power to additionally charge the starter battery . From 2013 the same basic engine - in a slightly modified version - was also available for natural gas operation (CNG). This version can be identified by a green "GO".

A version with an electric drive has been available since January 2020 . The combustion versions have not been available for order since May 2019.

The transversely installed front engine drives the front wheels. A typical MacPherson strut axle with disc brakes and rack and pinion steering is installed here, a torsion beam axle and drum brakes at the rear . The self-supporting sheet steel body has a drag coefficient ( ) of 0.33. In the version intended for the Austrian market, the body is galvanized. It is now possible to attach a trailer coupling. However, only a bicycle rack for transporting bicycles may be mounted on this, a tensile load is not entered. A roof rack with max. 50 kg roof load can be mounted.
