The Škoda Roomster is a high-roof station wagon from the Czech car manufacturer Škoda , which came onto the market in September 2006. In April 2010, a facelift followed similar to the Škoda Fabia II . Production was stopped in April 2015.

Model history

The name Roomster is from the English terms Room and Roadster composite made-up word or portmanteau , the practical utility of a minivan with the driving characteristics of a sporty roadster is meant to suggest. The prototype was presented with rear sliding doors that were left out in the production version.

The Roomster is based on the body and technical components of the Škoda Octavia and the Škoda Fabia II . For previous new developments, the group management in Germany had refused to mix platforms for Škoda. It was made in the Czech Republic in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny .

The design was awarded the red dot design award .

Competitors were high-roof station wagons with mostly rear sliding doors as well as minivans, which are usually slightly smaller than the Roomster, as the Roomster occupies the niche between high-roof station wagons and minivans.

The trunk volume of the Roomster 5J is 455–1555 liters.

From April 2007, a delivery van version of the Roomster was offered by Škoda under the name Škoda Praktik . This version is outwardly identical to the car version, but the rear side windows have been replaced by painted metal sheets, and the rear part of the interior has no seating. The cargo space is separated from the passenger compartment by a partition and has lashing eyes for securing the cargo. Further adjustments are a modified set-up of the chassis and a slightly increased payload. The "Praktik" was also offered a little cheaper than the car version.

The Škoda Praktik was the successor to the delivery van variant of the Škoda Fabia .

In Austria , in addition to the Škoda (Roomster) Praktik , an Octavia Praktik was also offered; the modifications (windows, seating) were the same as with the Roomster.

Facelift

In spring 2010 the Škoda Roomster received a facelift and a technical update. The entire front end including the front section was changed and the interior and dashboard were upgraded. Four new engines were on offer: a "1.2 TSI" with 63 or 77 kW and a "1.6 TDI" with 66 or 77 kW. There was also a " GreenLine " version, this should consume less fuel and has a 1.2-liter TDI engine with an output of 55 kW and a specified consumption of 4.2 liters.
