The Roaring Fork River is a 113-kilometer left tributary of the Colorado River in the US state of Colorado . The river has its source above Aspen in the Sawatch Range in Pitkin County west of Independence Pass . Shortly afterwards Difficult Creek flows into Aspen and Castle Creek later . At basalt he crosses the border with Eagle County . The Fryingpan River also flows there . At El Jebel he crosses the border to Garfield County . Below Carbondale , the Crystal River flows into the Roaring Fork River. Other tributaries are Snowmass Creek , Brush Creek , Maroon Creek, and Woody Creek . The Roaring Fork River also feeds the Twin Lakes Reservoir .
The confluence with the Colorado River is at Glenwood Springs .
