The Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers Limited ( KVM ) is an automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturers with headquarters in Thika , Kenya .

history

Leyland Kenya Limited has been producing individual vehicles from SKD kits since 1962 . In 1974, the company CMC acquired a 33% stake in Leyland Kenya.

Assembly production started in Thika in 1976.

In 1989 the company was renamed Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers after the entry of a new investor .

The vehicle brands produced include Nissan, Mazda, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco. In 1992, Suzuki, Leyland DAF and Mitsubishi were also named.

The Volkswagen Polo has been assembled at KVM under the model name Vivo since December 2016 .

The current shareholders are the Kenyan government (35.0%), CMC Holdings (32.5%) and DT Dobie & Co (K) Ltd (32.5%).
