The CMC Holdings Limited is a vehicle importer in Kenya , Uganda and Tanzania . The company was founded as Cooper Motor Corporation in July 1948 by two vehicle dealers named Allen and Cooper, who began importing the Land Rover to East Africa.

Over the years, vehicles from Volkswagen , Audi and Nissan were added. In the 1960s and 1970s, the company took over a number of other companies, including the Wilken Group and a 33% stake in Leyland Kenya (now Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers ).

In 1971 the Cooper Motor Corporation was restructured into CMC Holdings Limited . In 1981, CMC took over the concessions for Ford and Mazda, and later also for Suzuki.

The exclusive rights to several brands were lifted in 2012. On February 11, 2015, the listing of CMC Holdings was terminated after the takeover by the Al Futtaim Group after the listing had already been suspended in September 2011.

To the subsidiaries of CMC Holdings include the CMC Motors Group Ltd , the Cooper Motor Corporation (Uganda) Ltd , Hughes motor (Tanzania) Ltd and Hughes Agriculture (Tanzania) Ltd .
